The Florida Gators‘ recruiting class for 2026 is relatively strong in terms of depth, but lacks the star power of head coach Billy Napier‘s best classes.
As things sit right now, the Gators have 18 commitments, ranking them 14th in the 2026 class and seventh in the SEC. Where things aren’t the strongest is at the top of the class. The best prospect is edge rusher JaReylan McCoy, who ranks 108th in the class per On3 Sports/Rivals. Even though they don’t have a single top 100 recruit, they do have four in the top 125.
The Gators are working to try and get the commitment of an elite edge rusher who left the Gators out of his top three, and they could make an impact
Florida Gators working to land elite four-star EDGE Jake Kruel
As things sit right now, the Gators aren’t in Jake Kruel’s top three, which consists of Ole Miss, Texas, and leader Oklahoma, who has a 76.4% likelihood to end up a Sooner. The Gators aren’t giving up on him, including sending him an impressive package.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Kruel is a target of the Gators. He plays at IMG Academy, where teammate three-star offensive lineman G’Nivre Carr has already committed to the Gators. He grew up a fan of the team, being from the state of Florida, and it could end up helping them land Kruel.
The coaching staff isn’t the only ones trying to convince Kruel to come to Gainesville, as Gator commit four-star edge rusher KJ Ford is doing some recruitment of his own on social media.
If the Gators landed Kruel, he would be the top prospect in the 2026 class, ranking 41st in the country and the eighth-ranked edge rusher. If Napier can land Kruel, it would change things for the better across the board. Will Ford’s efforts help? Only time will tell, as his commitment date of August 12th is coming up quickly.
