The Florida Gators continue to make waves in the world of recruiting. They are now up to 13 recruits in the 2026 class, and the 2027 class is one that they are working on as well.
They have one quarterback commit in the 2026 class in four-star Will Griffin who competed at the Elite 11 camp this week. However, they are likely to attack the position moving forward, as the succession plan for DJ Lagway still needs to be answered.
The Gators are making inroads with a quarterback who has ties to the program in four-star colton Nussmeier from Flower Mound, Texas. You might remember his dad Doug Nussmeier, who was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Jim McElwain.
Nussmeier, who measures in at 6'3 and 175 lbs, is a consensus four-star who ranks as the sixth-best quarterback and 52nd overall recruit in the nation per the On3 Sports Industry Ranking. He made just his second visit of his recruitment on Monday and it made a positive impression on him.
Head coach Billy Napier has had a lot of success when it comes to recruiting the state of Texas, including starting quarterback DJ Lagway, Nussmeier's scouting report from 247 Sports is slightly different from his older brother Garrett's, and that's a good thing.
Gunslinging southpaw with a great football pedigree, verified pushing 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Made the most of his first season as a starter as a sophomore, throwing for 1,939 yards and a 16 to 3 TD/INT ratio. Plays with noticeable swagger and will make some high-level anticipatory throws into tight windows. Can attack the quick game like few others in the class thanks to his buttoned-up lower body mechanics and processing power. Has shown the ability to make plays happen off schedule, but must continue to improve sack avoidance if he's going to reach his ceiling. Sophomore varsity basketball highlights, including a game-winning buzzer-beater against a Texas 6A Top 10 team, give plenty of promise in regards to long-term athletic projection. Should be viewed as one of the higher-floor QB prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle at this juncture.
