When you look back at the history of the Florida State Seminoles, you can't help but mention former head coach Jimbo Fisher, who was responsible for one of the more dominant eras in Florida State history, and certainly the most dominant in recent history.
Jimbo Fisher really started as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn in 1993, all the way to 1998, then moved on to Cincinnati in 1999, and LSU from 2000 to 2006. In 2010, Fisher became head coach at FSU.. He led FSU to an 83–23 record over eight years, with a BCS National Championship in 2013, beating Auburn 34–31, and quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy.
Fisher’s FSU teams won three straight ACC titles from 2012–2014, and played in four bowl games. His offenses produced NFL quarterbacks like Winston, EJ Manuel, and Christian Ponder, with Winston still in the NFL on the New York Giants. However, his final 2017 season ended with a 7–6 record.
Fisher is beloved by most FSU fans and is considered a Florida State legend. I guess that's pretty given when you win a school a National Championship.
But, there is also a section of the fan base that doesn't like Fisher because of the way things ended.
In 2018, Texas A&M hired Fisher. He coached there until 2023, finishing with a 45–25 record. His best year was 2020, when the Aggies went 9–1 and won the Orange Bowl. However, Fisher faced criticism for inconsistent results and failing to win an SEC title. After a 6–4 start in 2023, Texas A&M fired him, paying a $77.6 million buyout.
Now, he is getting a job that will bring him back closer to Florida State.
Jimbo Fisher gets job with ACC Network
According to On3, Fisher is headed to work on the ACC Network on TV, where he could be covering various FSU games. So, technically, he is closer to the university than he was before.
And he's excited.
“I'm looking forward to joining ACC Network and the Huddle team this season. I've always had tremendous respect for this conference, and I'm looking forward to breaking down the action each week with such a talented group.”
This puts Fisher and Manuel back together, as Manuel, the former FSU QB, works on the ACC Network right now and has for a bit now.
