Florida State Seminoles get the kind of news no one wants to start their season, let alone before playing Alabama
The Florida State Seminoles are going to be without some key players as the Seminoles get bad injury news before playing Alabama.
Opening up the 2025 season against Alabama doesn’t seem like the most ideal way to get a 2-10 program in Florida State back on track. But, this team is completely different than that one, with an almost entirely new starting lineup, and almost an entirely new staff. However, the Seminoles will be without some key players on Saturday due to an injury.
According to head coach Mike Norvell, on Monday during his weekly press conference, defensive lineman Kevin Wynn and wide receiver LaWayne McCoy are out against Alabama. He also mentioned that the two of them should have a quick return after this week.
But for this week, that presents a bit of a problem.
Florida State Seminoles will be without key players against Alabama as they deal with injuries
Alabama may not look or sound like the threat they were a few years ago, but this is always going to be a talented roster and a great-coached team. They will always out-talent you, no matter who you are. But, they won’t always out-work you. Working hard doesn’t require talent, so that’s what this Seminoles team will need to do.
They will especially need to do that now.
McCoy has great size and speed, and was likely going to be the backup at the Z position, behind who appears to now be true freshman Jayvan Boggs. That’s the depth you need, especially against Alabama, especially behind a true freshman who hasn’t played a snap yet. McCoy is a sophomore, so he doesn’t have a ton of experience, but he has more than Boggs.
And for Wynn, the Seminoles need defensive lineman depth against Alabama, one of the best trench teams in the country. They will need fresh bodies to throw against that elite offensive line that the Alabama Crimson Tide is going to have. And Wynn, while he is a true freshman, has great size as a nose tackle that the Seminoles now won’t have. He was likely going to be a second-string NT, but now the Seminoles will be without him for at least Week 1.
The bright side is that after struggling with some nagging injuries, wide receiver Squirrel White is set to be healthy and ready for the game. So, they do have that going for them. But, no matter the injuries, you have to feel confident that Mike Norvell will have his team ready.
