Things have been going in the wrong direction lately on the recruiting front for Florida State. A number of players have either decommitted or flipped their pledge to another program.

Fortunately, Mike Norvell is still doing some good works, and he got a four-star player for the 2027 class to pull the trigger on the Seminoles on Friday, per Rivals.

2027 four-star LB Gregory Batson commits to Florida State

A four-star recruit out of Leesburg, GA (Lee County HS), Batson checks in as the #337 overall player, #21 linebacker, and #38 player in the state of Georgia for the 2027 class according to the On3 Sports/Rivals industry rankings. The 6’1″, 200-pound linebacker holds offers from Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kansas, USF, and West Virginia, among others.

Batson gives Norvell a fifth commitment and third four-star pledge for his 2027 class, and it’s one that’s focused significantly on the defensive side of the ball. The highest-ranked player is Ruskin, FL safety Mekhi Williams, who comes in at #102 in Rivals’ industry rankings. Davie cornerback Bryce Williams (Western HS) comes in next at #175 overall and is one of two Fort Lauderdale-area cornerbacks committed for 2027, in addition to three-star Jemari Foreman (Plantation HS).

We’ll see if Norvell can continue to turn the momentum back in FSU’s favor over the final few weeks of the season, but this was a much-needed pickup for the garnet and gold after a tough week.
