Seminoles shouldn’t get their hopes up about a top-60 player in the country despite landing in his top-8 teams
The Seminoles really need him, too.
The Florida State Seminoles must excel in recruiting for the 2027 class, as head coach Mike Norvell’s job security depends heavily on tangible progress and on building a stronger roster, despite financial constraints that prevent an immediate coaching change.
Securing the right talent through both high school recruiting and the transfer portal is essential to improving in 2026. Despite recent struggles, Norvell has kept recruiting classes competitive, with the 2026 class ranked 15th nationally and the 2027 class currently 13th, though that ranking could fluctuate.
They could land a top-60 player in the 2027 class, but expectations should stay low.
Julius Jones lists the Seminoles in his top eight
The Noles are a legendary, prestigious football brand that still intrigues top players, even though they aren’t winning right now. Is it a bit harder to recruit than it should be? Yes. But the brand speaks for itself—players want to see themselves in that Garnet and Gold. Julius Jones, a near-five-star receiver at St. Thomas Aquinas, seems to be intrigued by the Noles.
He released his top eight schools, and the Seminoles are in the mix. However, it feels like there is almost no shot they land him. And, there is a very good reason for that sentiment. Jones really likes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and would actually be a legacy player for them, meaning someone in his family played for ND.
Jones is an elite receiver with balance in route-running, hands, and speed. Those traits likely fit best at Notre Dame, and if not there, FSU remains an unlikely destination.
Rivals has FSU with the seventh-best odds to land Jones, behind the ND, the LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Texas Longhorns, and Oregon Ducks. If FSU really wants him, they are going to have to put in a ton of work.
