Seminoles HC Mike Norvell is singing the same old song that Florida State fans are tired of hearing
Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell is just saying the same thing, but the results aren’t showing.
The Florida State Seminoles are sticking with head coach Mike Norvell, at least for the rest of the season. Reports are that the financial situation they would put themselves in is far too concerning to move on from Norvell, but he’s just not winning games.
Norvell spoke on Wednesday for the first time since losing to Stanford, which may have been their worst loss in a long time. The good news is that they’re on a bye week this week, and can’t lose. The bad news is that Norvell just keeps singing the same song after losses that fans are tired of listening to.
Mike Norvell coaching stats
- Mike Norvell has an overall record of 33–27 (.550)
- Mike Norvell has an ACC record of 20–24
- Has a 13–1 season in 2023, winning the ACC Championship
- ACC Coach of the Year and Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach of the Year honors in 2023
- Despite a strong 10–3 record in 2022, his 2024 season was a disappointing 2–10, marking FSU’s worst performance since 1974.
Seminoles HC Mike Norvell reflects on Stanford loss
“I know and understand the expectations. There’s no higher expectation than what I have,” Norvell told reporters on Wednesday. “I know it’s not been good enough. The team, the staff, we’re working extremely hard to get it right. We are going to get it right. I know we have to win games.
“I take great ownership in our results. It’s not been good enough. I hate it for Michael. I hate it for our players. I hate it for the program. I hate it for everybody. That’s on me and this staff and this football team to get that right. We’re going to get it fixed, and we’re going to get better.”
The Seminoles cannot keep doing this, over and over again, and the fan base does not deserve to watch their team lose eight straight conference games. The loss at home to Pitt was unacceptable; double that and you get the Stanford loss, in a team that was significantly worse on paper.
These losses are coming down to coaching, and that falls on Norvell’s shoulders. You cannot have the record he has in college football, in a Power Four conference at that, and just continue to keep losing. And most importantly, you cannot continue to keep saying the same things, and what you’re saying does not translate to the field.
The fan base has to be tired of hearing what they’re hearing.
