Mike Norvell reveals an emergency situation has risen, but it shouldn’t effect the way they prepare for Clemson
Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles will be prepared for Clemson.
On Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles looked like the team we saw at the beginning of the year, as they beat down the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. On Monday, they got a bit of bad news with offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Head coach Mike Norvell let everyone know that Malzahn has a family medical emergency he’s dealing with.
Norvell sent out prayers to Malzahn, but also let everyone know he doesn’t believe it should affect their preparation for their matchup against the Clemson Tigers.
“Obviously, our thoughts are with him and the situation within his family. I mean, it should not affect overall. He’ll be ready to go for practice in the morning. Obviously, working through that situation. But all things preparation-wise, I feel confident about what that will be,” Norvell told reporters on Monday morning.
The details about Malzahn’s family emergency are not out there, and honestly, they’re not important. It’s a personal situation that he will talk about when and if he wants to. Malzahn has had a medical emergency within his family in the past. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.
Seminoles can improve to 5-4 on the year with a win over Clemson
After winning a home game on Saturday, the Noles head back on the road to play in one of the toughest environments in football. Clemson hasn’t been good this season, but it can easily win any game due to their coaching and roster. Not to mention their home-field advantage.
So, how do they go on the road and win a big game in Death Valley?
“We’re not going to be in control of anything that’s going to show up at Clemson,” Norvell said when asked why they play so poorly on the road vs. at home. “The drive is going to be the drive to the stadium, the atmosphere, the crowd, the noise, all parts of that dynamic. We’re the ones who get to go play and coach in this game. You prepare your mind for that. You learn the lessons from previous experiences.”
Norvell is confident he will have his team ready.
