Florida State Seminoles are still doing what no one expects them to do, considering the situation they’re in with Mike Norvell
The Florida State Seminoles are still recruiting at a high level despite head coach Mike Norvell being on as hot a hot seat as one can get. They just landed another elite recruit over blue-blood programs.
The Florida State Seminoles are in one of the strangest situations of any college football team in America. Their coach, Mike Norvell, is on a major hot seat—so much so that some would argue he would have been fired last season if his buyout wasn’t so high.
However, Norvell is still doing his job, and he’s still doing parts of it very well, like recruiting. Yes, the product in the field isn’t good right now, and it hasn’t been in two years. But somehow, Norvell has a top-20 recruiting class in 2025, 2026, and now 2027, with 2027 projected to only get better, ranked 19th overall on On3.
This week, they landed an elite player over several blue-blood programs, showing they still have some juice in recruiting.
Seminoles land 2027 athlete Dayon Cooper
Earlier this week, the Noles landed Dayon Cooper, a three-star athlete in the 2027 recruiting class. By the time he gets to campus, his ranking could increase to four-star due to his talent and versatility. The 6’0, 180-pound athlete picked the Seminoles over Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Texas A&M. Cooper’s potential to contribute at multiple positions could strengthen FSU’s roster as they look to improve on recent performances.
Tennessee and Texas A&M are known for elite recruiting and are widely considered to be blue-blood programs, at least as of late. Not to mention, FSU beat Tennessee and Vandy out on a prospect that’s in-state for them.
Cooper has played a few different positions, but the two he seems to be the best at are cornerback and wide receiver, where he’s a two-way athlete. Whether or not he stays that way is still a huge question. Most players who play both sides in high school usually pick one when they get to college.
Of course, the Noles do have the most famous two-way player of all time as an alumnus in Deion Sanders. But Cooper is not Deion Sanders, at least not yet, and it’s not fair to compare. Regardless, he’s a good football player.
