Florida State Seminoles had a powerful message being sent before and after their win over East Texas A&M
The Florida State Seminoles displayed a powerful message pertaining to Ethan Pritchard.
The Florida State Seminoles played with a purpose bigger than themselves on Saturday. Linebacker Ethan Pritchard was shot in the back of the head recently and has been in stable condition at the hospital where he’s located. This game was for him, and they showed that even before the first snap.
“Obviously, it was pretty hard on all of us because that’s our teammate… he’s always at our house and our pool hanging out with us and stuff like that,” quarterback Thomas Castellanos said after the win over East Texas A&M. “It was crazy, it was a tragedy, and it’s something that made us go out there and play for him today.”
Before the game, the Seminoles brought Pritchard’s jersey to the coin toss with them, held by defensive back Earl Little Jr. That let everyone know that the game was going to be played a bit differently. FSU was going to beat whoever lined up against them on Saturday; it just had to be East Texas A&M.
Seminoles allowed Pritchard’s father to do the honors post-game
After every win, the Seminoles usually allow a player or coach to break the rock with a sledgehammer. The rock sometimes features the opposing team’s logo, signifying that the team has beaten the opponent, won the game, and moved on to the next one. After the game, head coach Mike Norvell gave a speech to his players about why Pritchard’s father was in attendance in the locker room.
He then gave Pritchard’s father the game ball and asked his team if they would all be okay with his father being the one who broke the rock. Of course, everyone yelled yes. And, he did it, as the Seminoles allowed
“He absolutely loves it, and to know that right now that’s taken away from him, in a senseless act and something that… you don’t always know why. And you don’t always know why you have to go through things in life you don’t understand,” Norvell said.
This game was so much bigger than the Noles just putting up 70 points. This was them playing for their brother.
“I do believe God has his hand over Ethan,” Norvell continued.
