Virginia defender doesn’t hold back in regards to matchup vs. Seminoles having a little more meaning to it than it usually does
The Virginia Cavaliers and their DT Jason Hammons are hoping for a win over the Ranked Seminoles.
The matchup between the Florida State Seminoles and the Virginia Cavaliers isn’t really a deep or big-time rivalry, but there will be some extra motivation from both sides on Friday night. Specifically, Virginia defensive tackle Jason Hammond is taking this ACC matchup a bit personally.
“I was actually a guy who was told I was too small by Florida State, so for me, this is a little personal,” Hammond said ahead of the matchup.
He will get a chance to get his revenge on Friday.
Florida State can prove they were right
In his three years at Virginia, Hammond has 22 tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss in 15 total games. So, it’s safe to say that he hasn’t really done a ton, yet. The redshirt sophomore could very well have a big game on Friday and use the disrespect he got from FSU as motivation. This would be the perfect breakout game for him, and you have to admire the confidence he has.
However, if this Seminoles’ offensive line can hang with the Alabama Crimson Tide and the defensive line they have, Virginia should be pretty easy. Alabama always has pretty good guys on the defensive line, and even this one has some guys that we could see in the NFL within the next few years.
Sure, Alabama isn’t what it once was with Nick Saban, but it’s still a dominant team that the Noles threw around and dominated in the trenches. It just doesn’t feel like anyone in Virginia is going to be able to do that, or at least good enough to where they are ruining FSU’s game plan.
Virginia allows 100 rush yards per game and 313 pass yards per game. For the way the Seminoles play, by running the ball a ton to set up the pass game, this could really work in their favor. They have just 4.5 sacks on the year. Florida State could really dominate the trenches in this one.
