Seminoles wide receiver Duce Robinson is shutting down all hypotheticals while shouldering some blame for loss vs. Virginia

The Florida State Seminoles almost won that game, had Duce Robinson caught it. But, that doesn’t matter.

You could make the case that the Florida State Seminoles should still be undefeated. Not to be that guy, but if Duce Robinson catches that pass, and doesn’t bobble it, you can’t say that FSU doesn’t have a pretty good chance of continuing overtime, and walking away with a win, and not a loss to Virginia, of all teams.

But that’s not the reason they lost. And, no one cares about hypotheticals, well, Robinson sure doesn’t.

“I just need to catch it clean… I need to catch the ball the first time,” Robinson told reporters on Tuesday.

Regardless, Robinson had a huge game.

Duce Robinson’s stats vs. Virginia and in 2025

  • Nine catches, 147 yards, one touchdown, 16.3 yards per catch
  • 17 catches, 346 yards, three touchdowns, 20.4 yards per catch
  • 320 yards, 14 catches and three touchdowns are all from two games

Seminoles will need Robinson to beat Miami

The Seminoles need a big game from Duce Robinson against the Miami Hurricanes, who have one of the better passing defenses in the country. Miami has allowed just 673 passing yards and three passing touchdowns on the year. For comparison, FSU has allowed five passing touchdowns and 738 passing yards this season.

So, it’s very possible to score and pass the ball on Miami, but it’s not easy. Miami has allowed just 305 rushing yards this season and two rushing touchdowns, so the passing game seems to be where their defense is weaker, but not weak at all.

This is a pretty good team they are about to play, and Miami has beaten some very good teams. But Florida State should be ready. Once they returned home after the loss, the very next day, they got straight to practice that Saturday. They’re gameplanning for Miami, and have been for a minute now.

Robinson could have a huge game against Miami, and if so, that will be what gets them over the hump and beat maybe one of the best teams in college football.
