Getting Tommy Castellanos in he transfer portal was one of the smartest decisions that the Florida State Seminoles could have made. Well, that, and hiring Gus Malzahn as the offensive coordinator.

But, there is always the chance that the Seminoles will need to use another quarterback. Injuries happen, guys don’t play as well as teams thought they would, and changes get made. Luckily, the Seminoles also made sure to address that, just in case.

They were able to get four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry in the 2025 class. He’s very talented and has some insane potential as a passer. Now, no one really expects him to play in 2025, but you never know.

If something did happen, it seems like he would be the next man up, though. At least, it could be trending in that direction.

Seminoles quarterback KevinSperry could be QB2

The Seminoles just had a scrimmage the other day, and the true freshman was the quarterback to get reps with the twos, or the second team. He was behind Castellanos, but in front of Brock Glenn, who played when Jordan Travis went out a few years ago, as a true freshman.

Now, that battle is still up for debate, but it’s close, and Malzahn certainly likes Sperry.

“QBs, I’ll have a chance to go back and watch. We mixed the three pretty good, Tommy, Brock, and Kevin [Sperry]. For the first scrimmage, I was really impressed with what I saw from Kevin,” Malzahn said after the scrimmage.

“Kevin has got a skill set. He can really run. He’s growing; the moment has never been too big for him, which is unusual for a true freshman. You have to have QBs that are desperate to be all they can be, and I think all three of them are.”

The Seminoles will need someone to take over after Castellanos leaves after this season. Sperry could be the future of the program.
