The Miami Hurricanes took a big swing at the top quarterback in the transfer portal in Sam Leavitt. However, that swing was a miss, as the former Arizona State star ended up choosing Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers after a long, back and forth process.

With Alabama’s Ty Simpson likely off to the NFL, the big money options at the quarterback position appear to be off the board.

However, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and Miami proved that in 2025 with one of college football’s best offensive lines, a punishing ground game, and a defense that’s been as good as any in the nation when it counts.

The Hurricanes are going to take some heavy losses on both sides of the line of scrimmage after this season. However, there just so happens to be an elite, future NFL talent that’s come available that could help the Hurricanes continue their strong line play next year.

Colorado OT Jordan Seaton is entering the transfer portal, per On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos.

Seaton was a five-star recruit in the 2024 class and was ranked as the No. 18 overall player and the top overall offensive tackle according to Rivals’ industry rankings. He played for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He ultimately picked Colorado over Ohio State and Tennessee, among others. As things stand, On3 Sports/Rivals ranks Seaton as the No. 4 overall player and top offensive tackle in the transfer portal.

While Miami wasn’t a finalist, they did offer him and pursue him while he was in high school. And given how Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have formed arguably the best line this season, the argument is there as far as development as well as opportunity.

Both tackles Francis Mauigoa and Markel Bell will be off to the NFL after the national championship game. Miami has top overall recruit Jackson Cantwell coming in to man one side of the line of scrimmage, with Matthew McCoy a contender to handle the other side at the moment.

Adding Seaton for one season would give the Hurricanes two potentially impact tackles again for next season and allow Cantwell to slide over to the left side in 2027. And if the Hurricanes aren’t going to spend up on a quarterback and go with Emory Williams, Luke Nickel, or Dereon Coleman, they’ll have greater flexibility to do it elsewhere on top-end talent. And they’ll certainly need to protect any of those three very well.

While Miami has bigger fish to fry at the moment, with the national championship game against Indiana coming up on Jan. 19, they still have to make moves to get ready for what they hope is a championship encore in 2026. We’ll find out in the coming days is Seaton is in their plans.
