Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has been pinned as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in several mocks that have appeared this offseason, and that is not without reason.
Beck made a huge splash on the scene in his first year as the Bulldogs' starting passer, finishing out the season with over a 72% completion rate, passing for 3,941 yards with a 24-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Multiple college football coaches recently weighed in anonymously on Beck in an interview with The Athletic, sending him high praises.
“I think he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick,” one SEC defensive coordinator told the outlet. “A few things really stood out to me after playing him. He runs better than you think because he doesn’t do it often and he has such a quick release. He gets rid of it fast as s—. And he’s really intelligent. He’s one of the few quarterbacks who doesn’t look to the sidelines all the time. We were showing 0 (blitz) and he got them into a little quick screen. He’s really impressive.”
It's expected that Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Texas' Quinn Ewers will be Beck's top competition for the first quarterback to come off the board, though the season will tell the story and could shake things up in many facets, as the comparison between early mocks and actuality has reflected in past years.
But he's certainly put together the resume to believe he could the best player available.
“He played lights out against us,” one defensive coordinator said. “He’s got that prototypical first-round QB look to him. His touch on the deep ball was tremendous. I don’t think there is a better quarterback in the country right now in terms of his size, accuracy, accuracy on the deep ball. I think he throws a better deep ball than Jayden Daniels.”
Beck will get his first chance to hype up the hype train when he and the Bulldogs face the Clemson Tigers in the season opener on Aug. 31.
