The Georgia Bulldogs failed to make much noise in the College Football Playoff this past season and they have an easy excuse to point to that helps tell why.
After QB Carson Beck suffered an elbow injury against Texas in the SEC Championship game, the Bulldogs had to go with Gunner Stockton as the quarterback. Georgia fell to Notre Dame in their first game in the College Football Playoff after not making it in 2023.
Beck originally was entering the NFL draft, but less than two weeks later decided to withdraw that option and transfer to play for the Miami Hurricanes. Now that he is with the Canes, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes that good things are coming for Beck.
“I believe he does,” Finebaum said when asked if Beck can get Miami to the playoffs, via On3. “Carson Beck is a very good quarterback who at times last year, really helped bail Georgia out. And I’m thinking of that Tennessee game in particular, that was do or die. I still like him.
“He had so little to work with, the talent around him was so different than the year before, with [Brock] Bowers and [Ladd] McConkey, that he just never could adapt, and he just didn’t look happy. Maybe learning to drive a Lamborghini just really overwhelmed him.”
Georgia did lack top playmakers as they had in the previous season for Beck. As a redshirt junior, Beck threw for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. As a senior, Beck’s interceptions increased to 12 and he threw for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Last year it was Cam Ward who was the top transfer portal option out there and he ended up going to Miami and finding good personal success. Of course, an NIL offer is partially why Beck ended up at Miami, but that blueprint with Ward may be one that came to mind for him.
Back is giving it one last go in 2025, this time with Canes before embarking on an NFL career. The former Georgia QB will be a name to watch in the 2026 class.
