Former Georgia Bulldogs star makes game-winning highlight play for his NFL team that may save their season
Ladd is a special player.
Ladd McConkey quickly became a fan favorite offensive piece during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs. In the NFL, he has garnered a ton of support as well. After his dominance last season, his latest game-changing play for the Los Angeles Chargers may be one of the best of his young pro career.
Ladd McConkey shows off Georgia moves during Chargers win
Late in the fourth quarter with the game on the line, the former Bulldogs receiver came through for Los Angeles. Quarterback Justin Herbert kept a play alive, with a defender draped on him, and completed a pass to McConkey. Ladd took that pass for a massive chunk gain to place the Chargers firmly in field goal range.
Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker nailed the game-clinching field goal, and the Bolts came out with a huge win they desperately needed.
McConkey came out of the gates this season a bit slower than many expected, but he’s been impressive over the past couple of weeks. Even in a Week 5 loss, the former Georgia pass catcher grabbed his first touchdown. Then, this week versus Miami, McConkey led the team in receiving with seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.
The Chargers were without Quentin Johnston in the passing game in Week 6, so McConkey and Keenan Allen had to step up. Tight end Oronde Gadsden also played really well, totaling 68 yards on seven receptions.
Bulldog fans remember the way the Ladd would shake defenders and create explosive gains on offense. That is his role for Los Angeles now as well, and it seems like he is getting more comfortable within his unit as the weeks pass this season. McConkey’s connection with Herbert is undeniable, and that was on display in the team’s win against the Dolphins.
With the victory, the Chargers improved to 4-2 and ended a two-game losing skid. If they would have fallen to Miami, there would have been legitimate long-term concerns about their squad moving forward. Of course, winning cures all. The Bolts and their fans have McConkey to thank plenty for this one.
