Georgia football wide receiver Sacovie White was arrested over the weekend on two driving-related misdemeanors.

According to jail records from Athens-Clarke County, White was arrested at 3:04 a.m. Saturday for reckless driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Per several reports, alcohol and drugs were not involved and White was released one hour after his arrest on a $26 bail.

"He made a mistake by turning down a one-way road. What I'm proud of is that there was no drinking or speeding involved that I would have been disappointed in obviously," Steve Gates, White's high school coach told Athens Banner-Herald's Marc Weiszer. "But a traffic violation that occurs on the regular, bet he won't go down that road again."

Gates noted that White was in Athens for Georgia's "Scavenger Hunt" recruiting weekend.

White Had a Notable First Georgia Spring Game

White, a three-star prospect from Cass High in Cartersville (GA), officially signed with the Bulldogs this past December and joined the team as an early enrollee in January.

“The environment was amazing,” White initially told 247Sports on why he chose Georgia over several other D1 offers. “I love the fans there, the highlights were really just being able to see the people I have a connection with the most!”

The freshman wide receiver had a notable first spring game in April where he caught two passes for 29 yards and one touchdown. His 26-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Gunner Stockton gave the Black team the lead with less than five minutes to go in the scrimmage that ended in a tie.

White Wasn't the Only Bulldog Arrested in Recent Months

White isn't the only Georgia Bulldog who was arrested this spring.

Florida transfer running back Trevor Etienne was also jailed back in March and charged with a DUI after he was caught driving at more than 80 mph in a 40 mph zone.

As punishment, Etienne is expected to miss at least the first two games of the 2024 regular season.

“I can only speak for my university, but I think we do it better than anybody in the country in terms of education, speakers,” head coach Kirby Smart said of Etienne's March 24 arrest. “To your point about the NIL, we’ve done studies and looked, we have more kids with vehicles now than we probably ever have. I can’t really say to the style of vehicles, but you can probably make an easy assumption that with more money they have an opportunity to have nicer cars. But, just the number of players with vehicles is higher, but that’s not any excuse for the ability to speed, it just means we have more opportunities to have traffic citations, which we don’t want.”

Ever since the tragic Jan. 15, 2023 accident that killed Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and Bulldogs recruiting staffer Chandley LeCroy, the Athens-Clarke County police department has been cracking down on reckless driving.
