College football is ever-evolving. Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart understands that premise as he navigates a yearly SEC and national title contender. It is safe to say that he doesn’t push a player to stay with his team if they don’t believe it is in their best interest, either. He will allow them to walk out the door once they understand what they’re doing, and he made that crystal clear this week.

Bulldogs HC Kirby Smart discusses transfers that don’t fit program’s identity

Smart has never shied away from telling his point of view. At times, that comes off brass or cynical. Other times, it is a bit of comic relief or his delivery that changes how people think regarding his opinions. Regardless, he’s going to tell you his version of the truth that he feels.

On Monday, he was questioned about players who have chosen to leave the Bulldogs program due to the level of demand and commitment involved with playing for him and his staff. He did not hold back and instead, sent a bit of a challenge or warning to those who choose to move on in today’s CFB climate.

“We schedule them. The ones that want to leave, we schedule them. We try to get them on the schedule, because when they want to leave, because they’re not physical, that means they’re probably going to a place that’s not physical. We like those places; we like to play them. We prefer them, actually, if you can get them on the schedule. So, it’s one of those deals that you don’t run from hard in life. You run from hard in life, you’ll find more hard.” — Kirby Smart on how to handle players who leave his program due to demands

We have seen players exit the Georgia program and find success on an annual basis. That being said, the incoming transfer for Georgia usually outweigh the notable names we hear from once they depart from the Bulldogs.

In a college football landscape built on the dollar, and Smart’s program has plenty of that to help with the portal, the hard work that comes once you land with the Bulldogs is what separates some players from other players. Roster shifts will happen on a yearly basis, and the Georgia coach isn’t interested in the easy way out in nearly scenario.

You can see it on the field every weekend. When Georgia plays weaker opponents or even some of their own SEC competition, there can be a starkly different look between the squads when it comes to power and grit. Smart has made sure no one will out-tough the Bulldogs, regardless of what is happening with their wallet.
