The Georgia Bulldogs are currently in a massive recruiting battle with the Oregon Ducks for 2026 five-star quarterback Jared Curtis.
Curtis, 6-foot-4/224 lbs from Nashville, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
The highly coveted recruit committed to Georgia on March 23, 2024, but he decommitted from the Bulldogs in October.
"This morning I spoke with Coach (Kirby) Smart and Coach (Mike) Bobo and let them know that I still love Georgia, but would like to take some more time to explore all my options so I can make the best, most informed decision for my future," said Curtis when he announced his decommitment last fall. "I let them know it just doesn't seem right or fair to stay committed while checking out other programs. People to know where I stand and I've learned that making big decisions takes time."
Oregon has been viewed as the leader for Curtis at various times over the last couple of months, but recruiting is fluid and "leaders" can change at any minute.
Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney noted this week that "there are some sources" who believe a lucrative NIL deal to keep Curtis in the southeast could be in the works (which would obviously be good news for Georgia).
"There are some sources who believe Georgia will not only not stop recruiting Curtis hard but that there is a favorable NIL package coming his way that could keep him in the Southeast that could entice Curtis to stay closer to home and play for the SEC power," wrote Gorney over the weekend.
Curtis recently showed off a video of a new Corvette, so maybe that "favorable NIL package" already came through.
We'll see how this recruiting battle plays out over the next nine months, but it's quite clear that Georgia is doing all they can to land the nation's No. 2 overall player. And considering Georgia's recent success under Smart, it's hard to imagine the Bulldogs missing out on a recruit when they go "all in".
