Georgia Bulldogs tight end Oscar Delp was expected to see an increase in production in 2024 with star tight end Brock Bowers no longer in Athens.

Instead, Delp saw his production drop a bit in 2024, catching 21 passes for 248 yards after recording 24 receptions for 284 yards the previous season.

It turns out there was a reason for the drop in production.

Delp, a former four-star recruit from Cumming, GA, admitted this week that his focus wasn't in the right place at times last season.

"Last year, there [were] times I feel like I had one foot out the door," said Delp while speaking with reporters on Tuesday. "And I was just thinking about things I shouldn't be thinking about and it just kind of hurt me in ways that I didn't think would happen. And I kind of figured it out later on in the year, how to really practice and how I should really be leading that (tight end) room and everything. I think with a full year of doing that, how I approach that, and with just trusting Coach (Todd) Hartley and all the coaches that we have a plan and [are] coming together, I think it's going to be a good season."

"Just listening to the outside noise," added Delp when asked to clarify what he meant by having one foot out the door. "I kind of struggled with looking at my phone too much when I shouldn't have been looking at it. Looking at things that people were saying about me and about potential things. I'm not saying I was planning on leaving or anything, but I'd be lying if I didn't hear those things…I'm just focusing on Georgia right now."

"Whenever the ball is in the air and coming toward me, I just need to be able to make that play," noted Delp when asked specifically what he wants to show he can do in 2025. "And just show everyone the kind of receiving tight end I can be. Really just whatever play they call, be able to execute it to the best of my ability."

Delp is an extremely talented player who can be a huge asset for the Bulldogs in the passing game. The fact that he struggled with some off-the-field stuff in 2024 isn't a red flag. If anything, it's a sign of growth for the Georgia native (remember, players in college are still developing….and development isn't linear).

2024 is in the past for Delp. All he can do now is focus on being the best player he can be in 2025. And fortunately for the Bulldogs, it sounds like that's exactly what he's doing.
