No team in college football has more hype surrounding it heading into the 2024 season than the Georgia Bulldogs do, as Kirby Smart's team is predicted to be the best in the nation once more after it was snubbed from the most recent College Football Playoff.
The multiple potential first-rounders the team returns on both sides of the ball makes it easy to buy in, as does Kirby Smart's track record. And, speaking of talent, the Dawgs may have the best overall prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft in standout quarterback Carson Beck.
But not everyone believes the hype train should be full speed ahead to the extent that it currently is.
ESPN's Paul Finebaum is among those, voicing his opinion clearly on a recent episode of McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.
“(Georgia) runs into the problem that a lot of programs, including Alabama, have had, which is that the expectations are simply out of control," Finebaum said.
That's not to say he doesn't see what the Bulldogs have to offer or does not believe in their ability to go all the way, but that the bar can sometimes be set higher than reason for any football team.
"Let’s say they don’t win this year and maybe next year things go haywire and the quarterback gets hurt or somebody leaves. They have a very pedestrian 9-3 season, and then fans start to really get edgy. What happens then is the coach goes, ‘What else do I have to do? I’ve won two national championships.'”
Whether or not the Bulldogs can return to college football's highest stage will be something to watch when the schedule gets underway in September.
