Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney predicted this week that the Georgia Bulldogs will land one of the top 2026 defensive recruits in the nation.

Gorney predicted on Monday that Georgia will be the program that wins the recruiting battle for 2026 five-star safety Jireh Edwards, though he acknowledged that the Auburn Tigers and the Oregon Ducks are also in the mix.

From Rivals.com: Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M remain the top five for the Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances but one wonders if that list expands again with so many coaches coming through to see him in recent days.

Georgia and Auburn could battle this one out until the end but Oregon also shouldn’t be counted out as he’s a top priority there and there is always significant interest in the Ducks. Prediction: Georgia

Edwards, 6-foot-1/194 lbs from Upper Marlboro, MD, is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 2 safety in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Maryland. He's also rated as the No. 14 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The coveted recruit was in Athens this past weekend for Georgia's junior day.

"Just knowing that the history of Georgia, the player development they've got, the people they bring in, that really caught my eye," said Edwards to 247Sports after this recent visit to Georgia.

Edwards, who is set to take an official visit to Georgia in early June, is expected to announce his college commitment on July 4. He'll also take official visits to Auburn and Oregon before announcing his commitment.

The Bulldogs currently have five players committed to their 2026 recruiting class. We should see Georgia make some solid additions in the coming months.
