Former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers didn't have to suit up to star in the annual G-Day spring game.
Georgia honored Bowers at halftime for his second John Mackey Award — given to the nation's top tight end.
He received the award alongside head coach Kirby Smart, his parents, and his long-time girlfriend.
Bowers, a top 2024 NFL Draft prospect, reeled in 56 catches for 714 yards and six touchdowns during his final season with the Bulldogs to earn the Mackey Award again.
Where Bowers lands in the upcoming draft remains to be seen, though he's projected to go off the board somewhere in the top 15.
With Bowers off to bigger and better things, Georgia will turn to junior tight end Oscar Delp.
The pressure is on as Delp has some obvious big shoes to fill, however, Smart believes he doesn't have to be Bowers to make an impact in his own way.
“He does things his way,” Smart said of Delp following the G-Day scrimmage that ended in a 20-20 tie. “He’s not Brock, he doesn’t try to be Brock. He’s a quiet leader, similar to Brock, but he’s really physical. He’s tough. He knows the work ethic it requires. The guy’s taken a lot of reps since being here. He’s been durable. He’s doing a good job leading in that room."
Bower's presence will be missed, but the future of Georgia football remains bright.
