The Penn State Nittany Lions left little doubt as to how much better they were than the Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl. They won 31-14, bottling star rusher Ashton Jeanty and forcing Maddux Madsen to throw as many interceptions (three) as he had all season.
The most impressive part is they did it with star pass-rusher Abdul Carter playing only 18 snaps before leaving the game with an injury. Carter, projected to be a top-five pick in our latest 2025 NFL mock draft, logged two quarterback pressures.
On Wednesday morning's College GameDay, head coach James Franklin provided an injury update for Carter.
"Abdul is going to do everything in his power to try to get back” for the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9. “If he’s able to go, I know he’ll go.”
Carter had suffered an apparent upper-body injury, but details weren't given as to its nature. Here's the full quote Franklin gave:
"I just saw him walking for breakfast and he looks great. His attitude is great. But I just don’t have a ton of information for you right now. We’ll get back and get some more information, and then find out quickly. The little extra time helps too, as you know."
Penn State will be looking forward to facing the winner of the New Year’s Day clash between Georgia and Notre Dame at the Caesars Superdome during the Sugar Bowl. No matter who they face, the Nittany Lions will certainly be hoping to have Abdul Carter on their roster.
