The LSU Tigers are heading into their bye week with a 4-1 record and riding high after a 42-10 win over a surging South Alabama team in week five. Defensive coordinator Blake Baker has been making multiple adjustments throughout the season to try and fix an ailing defense.
The lastest adjustment to the back end was announced by head coach Brian Kelly this morning at his weekly press conference that Javien Toviano will be playing STAR the rest of the season.
Over the first four games, Toviano played just seven snaps on defense but started to see an increase inusage against South Alabama post-Harold Perkins injury. He played 13 snaps last week with 11 at wide corner and one each in the box and at free safety.
Kelly mentioned that they don't want to keep moving Toviano around and wants him to focus on one position.
"We can't keep moving him around," Kelly said. "We believe Toviano is really good closer to the ball and the line of scrimmage because he such a sure tackler, and he's assignment correct."
The Tigers defense could use some stability and they will have two weeks to get him comfortable at STAR.
