The LSU Tigers kicked off their season with an impressive victory against Clemson in Week 1, but the win came at a cost. Wide receiver Destyn Hill suffered a hand injury during the game, raising concerns about his availability moving forward. As the team prepares for Week 2, head coach Brian Kelly provided an encouraging update on Hill’s condition.

Hill has been diagnosed with a fractured hand that will require surgery. However, Kelly remains optimistic about a swift recovery, noting that a specialized plate and cast will allow Hill to return to the field sooner than expected. This setup is designed to minimize the typical challenges a hand injury poses for a wide receiver, potentially limiting Hill’s absence to just one week.

Destyn Hill Injury Update Provides Spark for LSU

“He has a fractured left hand,” Kelly said. “He had surgery yesterday. We put a plate in it to stabilize it. He’ll be out this week. We think that we can get him in a position where next week he can be in a limited capacity for us.”

“The plate stabilizes it to the point where we can put a cast on it that allows him to function as a wide receiver,” Kelly said. “Although disappointed that he won’t play this week, he’s pretty excited that he’ll get a chance to get back out on the field next week.”

A New Orleans native and former standout at Edna Karr High School, Hill joined LSU as a transfer from Florida State in December 2024. A highly touted four-star recruit from the Class of 2021, he was ranked as the 109th overall player and 18th-best wide receiver in his recruiting class. Despite his talent, injuries have limited his playing time. During his tenure at Florida State, Hill appeared in only 10 games, recording six catches for 87 yards, and he missed the entire 2024 season due to injury.

As LSU gears up for its Week 2 matchup against Louisiana Tech, Hill is expected to sit out. However, Kelly’s comments suggest that the receiver could return for the following week’s high-stakes clash against the Florida Gators in Baton Rouge. While the outlook is positive, recovery timelines can be unpredictable, and setbacks remain a possibility.
