LSU head coach Brian Kelly gave a lot of good news on Thursday for Tigers fans ahead of this Saturday’s showdown with Vanderbilt. Injury updates for star linebacker Whit Weeks, receiver Aaron Anderson, and a slew of other familiar names and impact players are trending the right way.

“They’re making progress,” Kelly said this week. “We’re seeing that there’s a chance that these guys could be ready on Saturday.

Linebacker Whit Weeks continues to manage soreness stemming from the ankle injury he sustained during the Texas Bowl against Baylor. Kelly addressed Weeks’ condition during his latest press conference, noting that the sophomore was still feeling the effects after LSU’s recent win over South Carolina.

LSU Provides Injury Update Ahead of Key Clash with Vanderbilt

Joining Weeks on the injury watch list is veteran edge rusher Jimari Butler. The fifth-year senior is considered a gametime decision for Saturday’s contest. Defensive tackle Bernard Gooden, also a fifth-year senior, was listed as doubtful on Wednesday’s SEC availability report. Gooden suffered a bruised collarbone in the win over the Gamecocks.

On the offensive side, LSU received more encouraging news. Wide receiver Aaron Anderson and offensive lineman Paul Mubenga were both listed as probable to play this weekend. Anderson, a redshirt junior, missed last Saturday’s game due to a knee injury, while Mubenga, a redshirt sophomore, was sidelined with a high ankle sprain sustained in Week 5 against Ole Miss.

With several starters potentially returning to action, LSU will hope to field a more complete lineup as it aims to maintain momentum in conference play.
