Week 11 of college football brings with it some massive marquee matchups with huge playoff implications and Alabama vs. LSU is the biggest of them all. This has been one of the most incredible SEC rivalries of the last two decades even without the playoff intrigue, but this is potentially "winner take all" for post-season hopes.
Alabama has looked unbeatable at times, taking down Georgia. LSU's strong offense and improving defense helped them beat Ole Miss and survive South Carolina's elite pass rush. However, both teams have logged a couple disappointing losses already. Will both teams bring their best or crumble under the pressure?
Heading into this epic battle between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide media members of A to Z Sports who cover both teams decided to weigh in, sharing their predictions for this season-defining SEC rivalry game.
LSU 30, Alabama 27
The LSU Tigers are vastly improved on defense under Brian Kelly and defensive coordinator Blake Baker in most every way except stopping the mobile quarterback. Bradyn Swinson has emerged as a potential All-American candidate on the edge. Zy Alexander is allowing a passer rating so low that opposing defenses would be better off chucking the ball straight into the dirt. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and his offense should be able to score despite Alabama's improving pass rush.
The trick will be containing Jalen Milroe. With two weeks to perfect their "stop the mobile QB" defensive scheme, the Tigers likely do just enough to get a huge SEC win at home over Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. – Travis May
Can LSU stop Jalen Milroe and other burning questions ahead of Saturday night’s massive rivalry game vs. Alabama
It’s a massive game on Saturday night for the Tigers
Alabama 31, LSU 20
Do a quick search for “Brian Kelly’s record against top 25 opponents”… and then proceed to bet against him. This LSU team is very one-dimensional, and is one of the overall worst rushing attacks in college football. They also have a propensity to turn the ball over, a less than ideal combination against Alabama. Expect Jalen Milroe to get on track, with the LSU defense really struggling against dual threat signal callers this season. – Ryan Roberts
LSU 30, Alabama 25
The Tide are coming off their best game of the year, where they shutout a ranked Missouri team. The defense is buzzing with 10 turnovers in the last 3 games and Garrett Nussmeier is more than willing to give a few away. But for Brian Kelly and LSU, this is the biggest game of his coaching career with the Tigers. Kalen DeBoer is only in year one, but if LSU misses the playoff with three losses, serious questions about Brian Kelly’s viability as a HC in Baton Rouge will arise. – Rob Gregson
LSU 31, Alabama 20
The seat is getting hot for Kaleb DeBoer as the program’s expectations weigh on the team, but I don’t see how they have the consistent star power to overcome a more talented team. Jalen Milroe will need to have a breakout performance, and the Tide’s defense has a tall task slowing all of LSU’s offensive playmaking. I expect LSU to overwhelm Alabama with chunk plays. – Ian Valentino
Alabama 34, LSU 28
This is going to be a tough game to predict. The past two seasons have been really close with a 32-31 LSU win in 2022 and a 42-28 Alabama win with the game having been tied before Jayden Daniels went down with a concussion. The game is likely to come down to a few plays. Will it be Jalen Milroe or Garrett Nussmeier to come down with the big play to get the win? Brian Kelly historically struggles in these big games and that will likely continue on Saturday. – Tyler Forness
