LSU fans have gotten rather accustomed to seeing their defensive backs find immense success at the NFL level. From Tyrann Mathieu to Derek Stingley Jr., LSU Tigers cornerbacks and safeties always seem to find their way to NFL stardom. Now, yet another former Tigers star has finally gotten his huge NFL payday amid all the NFL Free Agency frenzy this week in cornerback Kristian Fulton.

Kristian Fulton was of course drafted by the Tennessee Titans back in 2020, but his second round rookie deal and the one year contract he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers totaled less than $10 million dollars combined. But now, as of Tuesday afternoon, Fulton will be heading to join the Kansas City Chiefs after signing a two-year deal worth $20 million dollars.

This new contract will increase Fulton's potential annual earnings by more than 200% and make him one of the Top 25 highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL (at least until free agency gets even crazier). Fulton has consistently been one of the best zone coverage cornerbacks whose physicality at the line of scrimmage and the stems of routes could wreak some havoc in man coverage as well. He should bring some versatility to the Chiefs cornerback room right away for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo who loves to get creative with his defensive backs.

LSU has sent plenty of defensive backs to the pros, but with this contract Kristian Fulton likely extends his NFL career by potentially several years (if he cashes in on the opportunity). That likely helps him climb up the best all-time ranks for LSU defensive backs.

Fulton was obviously a huge part of LSU's recent national championship run as he finished the year earning Second-Team All-SEC honors after defending 15 total passes on the season. Now he's entering year six as a quality NFL starting cornerback.

Despite just four full seasons as a starter, Fulton already has over 200 career tackles, 5 interceptions, and more than 30 passes defended throughout his NFL career. He hasn't reached the pinnacle of the sport with a Super Bowl victory yet, but he certainly has a shot at it now with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hopefully Fulton continues to represent LSU well as he begins chapter three of his NFL career, now with the Chiefs.
