‘It wasn’t just them coming in on their own’ – Insider details what happened on the Lane Kiffin family visit to LSU
The LSU Tigers are one of the programs hoping to steal Lane Kiffin away from the Ole Miss Rebels.
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has dominated headlines this week as fans of three programs — Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida — anxiously await to hear where the coveted coach will be employed in 2026.
LSU and Florida are viewed as the two most likely destinations for Kiffin if he chooses to leave Oxford.
According to multiple reports, members of Kiffin’s family visited Gainesville on Sunday and Baton Rouge on Monday to get a feel for what life would be like in either city.
The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander details what happened on the Lane Kiffin family visit to Baton Rouge
Kiffin was asked on Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference about his future and his family’s reported trips to Gainesville and Baton Rouge.
Unsurprisingly, Kiffin declined to address the visits. He also didn’t discuss his future.
A few details, however, have emerged from the visit to Baton Rouge.
The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander joined McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Thursday to discuss some of those details.
Alexander noted that LSU officials arranged the visit.
“LSU officials arranged for a booster to send a private plane from Baton Rouge to Oxford on Monday morning,” said Alexander. “The Kiffin family, a few of them — specifically Layla Kiffin, his ex wife — landed in Baton Rouge around 11:48 AM or so at one of the private hangars at the Baton Rouge airport. And then they got into a Suburban and were driven around the city.
“And there was looking at properties, looking at high schools, things like that. [The visit was] in consideration of if they were to make a move, what they would do down here, where they would live, [and] is this kind of a fit for them? And so it’s absolutely something that LSU had a hand in. It wasn’t just them coming in on their own. They were there for about six hours, and then they got flown back to Oxford on Monday night. And that’s what it consisted of.”
Alexander added that he thinks the visit went well.
“As far as I know, I think it went well,” noted Alexander. “I think they were able to get a sense of some things in Baton Rouge, seeing some high schools [and things like that]. But I don’t know for sure what the Kiffins thought…I don’t know for sure if it swayed them one way or the other.”
Based on those trips, there’s no doubt that Kiffin has at least very seriously looked into leaving Ole Miss for either LSU or Florida.
But will he actually leave?
This feels like a cliffhanger on your favorite Netflix show, and I’m not sure the end of this storyline has been written yet.
