LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin closed out the final hours of 2025 with a big-time win.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, LSU safety Dashawn Spears has decided to stick with the Tigers instead of entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Zenitz’s report came a couple of hours after a previous report that stated Spears was planning to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Friday.

Keeping Spears in Baton Rouge is a huge win for Kiffin. Spears, a former four-star recruit from Denham Springs, LA, totaled 29 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack as a sophomore in 2025. He would’ve been one of the most highly coveted defensive backs had he entered the portal.

Lane Kiffin won’t attend Ole Miss vs Georgia playoff game

Kiffin, as he often does, generated headlines earlier this week when news broke that he was planning to attend the Ole Miss Rebels’ playoff game against the Georgia Bulldogs in New Orleans on Thursday.

One report suggested that Kiffin wanted to join the ESPN broadcast booth during the game.

The former Ole Miss head coach, however, is reportedly not going to attend the game.

Instead, Kiffin will attend the LSU women’s basketball SEC opener against Kentucky.

That’s probably the right call from Kiffin. It’s understandable that he wants support his former Ole Miss players, but staying out of the spotlight in New Orleans on Thursday is a wise decision.
