Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers are hoping to take advantage of some major college football news that went down this week.

On Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, Ohio State Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline agreed to become the new head coach at USF (replacing Alex Golesh, who recently left for Auburn).

Hartline is one of the top recruiters in college football. Losing him on signing day was certainly a blow for the Buckeyes.

As a result of Hartline’s move to USF, 2026 four-star wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford, an Ohio State commit since July, has delayed his decision.

According to On3, Kiffin and the Tigers are making a “major push” for Guilford as the elite recruit ponders his future.

“LSU is picking up very, very strong right now,” said Guilford’s trainer Dre Muhammad to On3 on Wednesday. “He has not decided. Talking to his mom right now. He talked to Hartline earlier in the day and he’s trying to process what it looks like without Hartline although he won’t have an answer.”

Guilford, 6-foot-3/190 lbs from Fort Wayne, IN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 22 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana (Guilford is originally from Florida). He took an official visit to Ole Miss in June, so he already has an established relationship with Kiffin.

You never know how these last minute recruiting battles will play out, but it certainly sounds like Kiffin and the Tigers have a legitimate chance to steal Guilford from Ohio State.
