LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin is reportedly making a move that will undoubtedly ruffle the feathers of one of the SEC’s most peculiar head coaches.

According to Football Scoop’s John Brice, LSU is on the verge of swiping defensive line coach Sterling Lucas, a highly respected assistant coach, from the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Lucas has spent the last five seasons at South Carolina.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer won’t be happy

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer, who is known for his quirkiness, almost certainly won’t love this move. Lucas is one of the top assistant coaches in the SEC. Losing him to LSU is a big blow to Beamer, especially since he’s entering the 2026 season on the hot seat.

Beamer tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve, so there’s a decent chance we see a sharp remark or two from him in reference to Kiffin swiping one of his top assistants.

As an aside, the ability to easily steal a top assistant coach from another SEC program is a great example of why Kiffin left Oxford for Ole Miss. That’s not something coaches can do at just any program.
