The LSU Tigers haven’t added anyone from the transfer portal quite yet, as it opens on January 2nd. That being said, retention is important in today’s CFB climate, and they are getting a key veteran presence back for their defense under Blake Baker.

LSU LB Whit Weeks announces return for 2026 season

One of the most important defensive players for LSU in recent seasons is coming back. Linebacker Whit Weeks announced his return to the Tigers and Lane Kiffin on Instagram earlier today. There was speculation that Weeks could enter the 2026 NFL Draft.

Weeks was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2024. His impact is crystal clear, and his lack of presence was obvious at times this season when he had to miss time due to injury. Weeks only appeared in eight games this season due to a broken foot. He had 125 tackles in 2024 as a sophomore.

“At the next level, we’re looking at a true three-down linebacker who brings immediate impact potential in multiple defensive schemes. The tape shows a defender with exceptional range and diagnostic ability who consistently plays faster than his timed speed. While his frame will cause some teams to hesitate, particularly those who prefer bigger-bodied traditional linebackers, his play strength and technique largely compensate for size limitations.” — NFL Draft Buzz on Whit Weeks

The experienced LB is an emotional leader for the Tigers unit and leads by example. His motor runs hot, and Weeks’ instincts remain underrated. He will be a massive piece in 2026.

Weeks is also dating Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry. Social media buzz swirled during the season regarding their speculated relationship, and Kiffin confirmed it in a modern way. Understandably, there was already a relationship with the new Tigers head coach before he was even officially hired for the linebacker.

Weeks’ return will also affect how the Tigers navigate the portal over the next chunk of time in their offseason. If he would’ve left, linebacker would be one of the biggest needs for their defense. Now, it could be a strength – allowing more focus on other spots to address.
