The LSU Tigers appear to be on the verge of losing a member of their 2026 recruiting class.

On3’s Sam Spiegelman predicted on Tuesday that 2026 three-star Darryus McKinley will flip to the Ohio State Buckeyes before the early signing period begins next month.

“Darryus McKinley logged an official visit to Columbus earlier this month — shortly after landing an offer from DL coach Larry Johnson,” wrote Spiegelman. “The Buckeyes are in a strong position to flip the Louisiana native away from the in-state Tigers, according to sources familiar with McKinley’s recruitment. I’ve moved my prediction to Ohio State to eventually pull off the flip.”

McKinley, 6-foot-3/270 lbs from Lafayette, LA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 73 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 20 player in the state of Louisiana. He’s been committed to LSU since August 1.

Losing Darryus McKinley to Ohio State could lead to more bad news for LSU

If LSU loses Darryus McKinley to Ohio State, it will likely be a precursor to more bad news for the Tigers.

That’s because Darryus McKinley’s older brother is sophomore LSU defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, a former five-star recruit who signed with the Tigers during the 2024 recruiting cycle.

If Darryus McKinley flips to the Buckeyes, it seems logical to assume that it’s a strong possibility that Dominick McKinley could join his younger brother in Columbus.

Dominick, a 308 lb space eater for the Tigers, has totaled nine tackles, one sack, and one pass defensed this season.

We’re about to enter the craziest month of the college football calendar — situations can change quickly, so there’s no guarantee that LSU loses either McKinley to Ohio State. But it certainly isn’t looking great for the Tigers at the moment.
