EA Sports College Football 26 is set to release on July 10th to the general public, and July 7th for those who pre ordered the Madden bundle. The LSU Tigers are expected to be one of the higher rated teams in the game, holding some lofty expectations heading into the 2025 college football season.

Some of the player ratings in the game have already begun to leak out. That includes the top rated quarterback in the country, which On3 released on Tuesday. LSU starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was included on that list. In fact, he was tied with Clemson signal Caller Cade Klubnik and Penn State standout Drew Allar as the highest rated at the position, coming in at a 92 overall.

Coming in right after Nussmeier was a four way tie for second place. With a 91 overall rating, you will find Sam Leavitt (Arizona State), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), John Mateer (Oklahoma), and Carson Beck (Miami). With so many players grouped closely together, this speaks to the national perception that there are a lot of talented quarterbacks out there, but no clear leaders.

Nussmeier himself is a very flawed college quarterback. He did some really good things in 2024 as a first year starter, throwing for 4,052 tards and 29 touchdowns. His season was also a bit up and down, turning the football over way too much, including 12 interceptions.

This LSU program spent a lot of money to build the offense around Nussmeier this offseason. That includes welcoming Barion Brown (Kentucky) and Nic Anderson (Oklahoma) in through the transfer portal. The Tiger also return wide receiver Aaron Anderson, who had a breakout season in 2024. If healthy, that wide receiver room should be very good.

The offensive line is being rebuilt this offseason as well, saying goodbye to four starters from last season. If that unit can play well, the offense has a chance to be a lot more consistent this fall.

If the game developers are correct, and Nussmeier is considered the best quarterback in college football in 2025, head coach Brian Kelly and LSU are probably having a great season. How well he plays will be a great indicator for the overall team success.
