LSU star Kyren Lacy has a lot more on the line this weekend than just helping the Tigers leave the Swamp with a victory

When you talk about the best producers of wide receivers in college football, the LSU Tigers are on the short list with the likes of Ohio State. Over the years, we have seen players like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Odell Beckham Jr., Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Jarvis Landry make the program proud and become big time players on the NFL level.

For the 2025 NFL Draft class, we don’t quite have a prospect of that caliber, but once again the Tigers have a talented pass catcher to keep a close eye on. Senior wideout Kyren Lacy has had a fascinating journey, currently leading LSU with 46 receptions for 697 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Lacy actually began his career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, where he spent two seasons with them. During those two years, Lacy hauled in 50 receptions for 668 yards and 10 touchdowns. The odds were stacked against Lacy becoming the top wide receiver for the Tigers, but he has waited his turn and it’s now taking advantage of that opportunity.

Coming into this season, Lacy had some borderline draftable grades, but those were in the late day three varieties at the very best. He possesses good size (6016v, 215v), and is a really detailed route runner. The biggest issues for Lacy coming in was lack of speed, as well as some troubling drops in 2023.

So far in 2024, those drop issues have mostly been remedied. Lacy has been their top receiver, and has made an impact pretty much every week. He does a great job working through contact, and can also separate as a route runner. There isn’t anything necessarily dynamic about him, but his nuance and consistency certainly gives him a chance to find a role on the next level.

With LSU coming off of a 42-13 demoralizing loss to Alabama last weekend, the Tigers now have a chance to rebound against the Florida Gators on Saturday. While Florida has a lot of issues, playing in the Swamp is never an easy thing. They are also down a couple of defensive backs, including their top cornerback Jason Marshall.

Lacy has a chance to make a statement in that game, and he certainly has the advantage on paper. Could he continue to rise in the 2025 NFL Draft? He will need to continue to stack good days. While Florida isn’t the statement it once was, you can bet that people will be watching this weekend.
