The LSU Tigers are in a fierce battle to secure one of Louisiana’s brightest stars, Albert Simien, the top-rated interior offensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting cycle. As the No. 1 prospect in the state, Simien is a priority for head coach Brian Kelly and his staff, who are determined to keep the elite talent close to home in Baton Rouge.
With a storied history of successfully recruiting Louisiana’s top prospects, LSU is pulling out all the stops to ensure Simien dons the purple and gold.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound junior from St. Augustine High School has attracted attention from programs across the country, with offers from powerhouses like Alabama, Nebraska, Florida, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M, among others. However, LSU’s deep ties to in-state talent and its aggressive recruitment strategy make it a formidable contender in Simien’s decision-making process.
LSU recruiting remains strong within Louisiana
LSU has a long tradition of securing Louisiana’s top talent, with recent successes including linebacker Harold Perkins (2022) and offensive lineman Will Campbell (2022), both of whom chose to stay home and play for the Tigers. This track record underscores LSU’s commitment to building its roster with the state’s elite, and Simien represents the next chapter in that legacy.
Simien has already made multiple unofficial visits to LSU, including a game-day experience in Week 4 against Southeastern Louisiana, where he witnessed the electric atmosphere of Tiger Stadium. The Tigers are expecting him back on campus later this fall, with a potential visit lined up for their high-stakes matchup against Texas A&M. This game could prove pivotal, as it pits LSU against one of Simien’s other top suitors.
Despite LSU’s strong position, Simien is keeping his options open, recently taking multi-day visits to Texas A&M and Notre Dame. His trip to College Station for the Aggies’ game against Auburn in Week 5 left a strong impression. “Something sparked” during the visit, Simien told Rivals, highlighting the allure of Kyle Field’s environment. Shortly after, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman logged a crystal ball prediction in favor of Texas A&M, signaling their momentum in the race.
Simien also praised Notre Dame for their welcoming approach, telling 247Sports that the Fighting Irish provided a “family feel” during his recent visit, with head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff rolling out the red carpet.
As Simien navigates his junior season, the LSU Tigers remain a heavyweight in his recruitment. With their proven ability to secure Louisiana’s top talent and the allure of playing in front of passionate home-state fans, Kelly and his staff are banking on their deep connection to Simien to keep him in-state. The Tigers return to action in Week 8, facing Vanderbilt in a Top-25 SEC showdown, and all eyes will be on whether LSU can continue to build momentum both on the field and in their pursuit of Simien.
