The new LSU head coach built his recent rosters at Ole Miss through the portal and is often lauded as one of the top recruiters in the portal in all of college football. Unfortunately for the Tigers, however, one of their top options at quarterback was just removed from the board. Brendan Sorsby is headed elsewhere.
LSU loses transfer portal battle for QB Brendan Sorsby
The top player in the transfer portal was a potential option for the LSU Tigers as their next quarterback. Former Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby visited LSU this weekend, but he has now announced his commitment to Texas Tech. He was at Tech on Sunday.
“Sorsby was expected to be at or close to the top of the market this year, which sources predicted would project around $5 million. It’s unknown what Sorsby got, but the competition between two of the sport’s biggest spenders means it’d be a surprise if he wasn’t atop the sport’s highest paid players in 2026 and surpassed that $5 million number.” — ESPN
Ryan Roberts of A to Z Sports was right on with his prediction for Sorsby’s landing spot. It’s worth noting he also pinpointed Leavitt to LSU before the portal opened up.
“There is a long list of programs that have interest in Brendan Sorsby, and entering the 2026 NFL Draft is still technically on the table. Texas Tech, Indiana, and Tennessee are the three biggest suitors to know. The Red Raiders have the momentum and the NIL backing to get this one done.” — Roberts
LSU now must turn their pursuit of a new quarterback elsewhere. Accordingly, it makes sense that rasnfeg QB and former Arizona State starter is scheduled to visit LSU on Monday. He is currently rated as the top available QB in the portal, via 247Sports.
