LSU lost even more than a game during frustrating loss to Alabama following latest news
It can be chalked up as a transfer portal miss at this point.
The LSU Tigers offense was a consistent struggle yet again in their latest defeat. This time, it came against the Alabama Crimson Tide and saw starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier get benched by the offensive coaching staff. The Tigers wide receiver room has not found much consistency, and that task will only get tougher following the latest injury news on WR Nic Anderson.
LSU loses WR Nic Anderson for remainder of season due to injury
The Oklahoma transfer has dealt with multiple injuries so far in his college career, so this is yet another frustrating tally for the pass catcher. LSU is expecting that this injury will end his season. The Tigers have just three games remaining. Anderson injured his right knee in the third quarter of the team’s loss to Alabama. He did not return and needed help off the field.
“The former Oklahoma transfer has played in every game this season, catching 10 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. He played in just one game with the Sooners in 2024, due to a quadricep injury. Nic Anderson had a breakout freshman season in 2023 for the Sooners, posting 38 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns.” — On3.com
Transfer portal questions for Tigers pass catchers
The transfer portal has not been particularly kind to the Tigers offense from their acquisitions this offseason. Anderson hadn’t quite found a rhythm when it comes to production so far this season, even before this latest ailment.
Along with Anderson, Barion Brown was lauded as an exciting piece to add to the passing game. While he has made a notable impact in the return game, he has not meshed quite as much with the offense, and the receiving production has been limited.
At tight end, Bauer Sharp joined the roster via the portal, but he has totaled just 21 receptions and one touchdown so far this season. Trey’Dez Green has been the most impressive pass catching TE for the unit, so his patience within the Tigers program has been rewarded.
All in all, the Anderson news is incredibly unfortunate for both the player and the team. We will see which receiver can step up in his place when it comes to snaps going forward.
