New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has enjoyed quite a bit of success rescuing quarterbacks from the portal. It’s a strategy that clearly works. And unless the landscape of the sport changes drastically, it’s a strategy that Kiffin will almost certainly continue to utilize.

Longtime insider says LSU is a possibility for Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway

Longtime NFL and college football insider Todd McShay suggested on his YouTube channel this week that Florida Gators transfer quarterback DJ Lagway could be a possibility for LSU.

Lagway, a former five-star recruit from Willis, TX, is going the transfer route after a meeting with new Florida head coach Jom Sumrall reportedly didn’t go well.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback passed for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season at Florida. He also rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Lagway’s stat line wasn’t pretty, but his elite talent is undeniable. His big frame (250 pounds) also makes him an attractive transfer option.

“LSU is a possibility (for Lagway),” said McShay. “They’ve got a young quarterback that they were trying out this year. But Lane’s never satisfied. Even when he’s satisfied, he’s not satisfied. And, I mean, Trinidad Chambliss is a wonderful story. But Ferris State isn’t going to be where Lane is looking for his transfers every year. And so, Lagway, in some regards, fits a similar mold, too.”

Kiffin is one of best quarterback developers in the sport. Lagway, meanwhile, has legitimate NFL potential. If he’s looking to reach his ceiling as a quarterback — which he surely is — than it’s hard to imagine a better landing spot than at LSU with Kiffin.

But at this point, it’s unclear where Lagway falls on LSU’s board.
