Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers must figure out their quarterback future and fast. Garrett Nussmeier is still around for the 2025 college football season and could certainly take the team far (perhaps the playoff), but he's gone after this fall.

LSU has gone hard after a number of the top quarterback recruits for the 2026 recruiting cycle, but none of them are now more important than Bowe Bentley, a four star from Celina, Texas. What's wild is how it seems that the majority of the SEC just seemingly forgot to pursue him despite obvious immense talent and recruiting pedigree.

Bowe Bentley, Four Star QB Recruit

Bowe Bentley has been one of the fastest rising quarterback recruits in the 2026 class following his junior season where he scored over 60 touchdowns and led his team to a 16-0 state championship-winning season.

He's been down to just LSU and Oklahoma for a few weeks now, and is visiting the Tigers this weekend (May 30-31). Then he's heading to visit the Sooners next weekend (June 6-7). Bentley isn't the only big name recruit in Baton Rouge this weekend as the team is hosting 13 blue chip talents from around the country all at once (including OL recruit Zaden Krempin who you can see pictured with Bentley in post below).

Bentley is the last big name blue chip quarterback recruit who still remains uncommitted that LSU has any hope in landing, so this weekend is definitely the most important of the entire year for all the reasons one might imagine. On top of Bentley the team is hosting five star offensive linemen Immanuel Iheanacho, Drew Evers, and Zaden Krempin, elite receivers Calvin Russell and Jalen Lott (also a potential DB), and a few other key top tier talents.

If LSU convinces Bowe Bentley to lean towards landing with them this weekend and brings a few of the blue chip talents in town alongside him Tigers fans will likely look back to this weekend and realize that the entire 2026 recruiting class came down to this moment.

It's bizarre that LSU is even still in the mix for Bentley, but somehow most every SEC school either completely overlooked him or treated him as a backup option. Only four SEC schools officially offered him a scholarship and Georgia made it clear that they really wanted Jared Curtis instead for years. Given how disrespected Bentley was by most of the SEC he quickly leaned hard towards LSU and Oklahoma beginning this spring after he made some unofficial visits.

The SEC's collective oversight could be LSU and Brian Kelly's gain here. Plus, the Sooners still have another high pedigree quarterback committed for the 2026 cycle (for now) while LSU is clearly all in on Bentley. Experts around the industry and sources that A to Z Sports has reached out to are still split on where Bentley will ultimately land, but this looks like LSU's battle to lose.
