When there is a five-star recruit in your background, it's important to do everything you can to keep them in state. Local recruiting is often the core of your roster.

For the LSU Tigers, they made a heavy push to keep New Orleans' five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart in the state, but they couldn't get it done.

On National Signing Day Wednesday, Stewart committed to USC, spurning Brian Kelly and the Tigers.

This is a brutal blow for the Tigers, as their recruiting has taken a major dip over the last few weeks. It started when prized five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped to Michigan. He wasn't the only one either, as the Tigers have dropped from the third overall recruiting class in the On3 recruiting rankings all the way down to ninth.

The Tigers right now have 23 commits in their 2025 class with 20 of them having already signed. They are still waiting on three commits to officially sign, including five-star plus cornerback D.J. Pickett, who has taken other visits, including to the Florida Gators when LSU lost to them in The Swamp 27-16.

It's not a complete disaster for LSU, but things certainly could be better.
