The LSU Tigers are beginning to reclaim the standard that has been set in Baton Rouge for the last two decades on the recruiting trail. Brian Kelly and his staff just landed the number one overall Transfer Portal class and another Top 10 high school football recruiting class this offseason. Now they're on pace to land a Top 5 class in the nation next spring thanks to their latest high pedigree commitment.
The momentum had already been building this spring as LSU had lined up a ton of unofficial and official visits for top tier talents around the nation. Now that they just landed the number one wide receiver recruit in the entire nation the sky is the limit for the 2026 recruiting class.
Tristen Keys, Five Star 2026 WR Recruit
When Tristen Keys launched up the recruiting rankings board in early 2024 following an unbelievably explosive junior season LSU was an early adapter, offering him quickly and pursuing him hard. Since then he's risen swiftly up the ranks as more top programs have gotten eyes on him. As of this writing he ranks fifth overall among all players in the 2026 recruiting class. Then on Wednesday afternoon he committed to the LSU Tigers.
For the past several weeks there had been speculation surrounding Tristen Keys' recruitment as he was set to visit nearly half of the SEC this spring. Many believed LSU was firmly in the mix to land Keys, but the majority of experts that A to Z Sports had spoken to surrounding this recruitment did not have the Tigers leading at all prior to Keys' visit to LSU Tigers' practice on Tuesday, March 18. He must have liked what he saw, because the day after his visit he committed to Brian Kelly and company.
Ole Miss had actually logged the most contacts with Keys and were in on him extremely early. Tennessee garnered the first major spring visit and seemed to be gaining momentum too. Alabama, Auburn, Miami, and Texas A&M were all in the mix to receive official visits this summer as well, but in the end Tristen Keys made his move a bit ahead of schedule, committing to LSU.
The LSU Tigers have seen seven of their wide receivers drafted in the last five years alone, including Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and more. It's no wonder Tristen Keys wanted to join the program that has quickly become "WR U" over the last half decade (and had been in the mix for the title before).
Thanks to recruitment wins like this, LSU certainly isn't done sending top tier wide receiver talents to the league either. And following 2025, a season that could lead to the departure of Aaron Anderson, Barion Brown, and Nic Anderson (LSU's likely top three WRs this year) all at once to the NFL, Keys could be in line for a massive opportunity in year one. Let's hope that 2025 LSU is good enough on offense to make that happen.
