LSU Tigers emerging defensive star set to prove his dominance wasn't a fluke in Week 4 game against UCLA

LSU's 2024 college football season may not have started like they wanted it to, but fresh off a victory against South Carolina the Tigers actually look primed to rip off a nice winning streak here. But if they're going to keep winning and finding more success on defense specifically they're going to need one emerging defensive star to keep up the dominance.
Everyone expected Harold Perkins to be the household name for LSU's defense if the Tigers wanted to find any real sustained success this year, but he's off to a bit of a rough start outside of a few plays so far. The real star for LSU has been edge rusher Bradyn Swinson.
Heading into last week's game Swinson already had posted a handful of pass rush pressures and some clutch run stops, but he absolutely annihilated South Carolina's offensive line almost single-handedly on Saturday. You can see a glimpse of that dominance in the post below from A to Z Sports' Ryan Roberts.
Swinson uses every ounce of his powerful 6'3", 252-pound build to crash violently into the left tackle, but then uses solid hand technique to burst to the inside and tally perhaps his most impressive sack of the day. But that wasn't all from Swinson.
In the post below you can actually watch all seven pass rush pressures, run stops, and key plays from Bradyn Swinson's incredible game against South Carolina.
From cleaning up in the run game on a couple tackles to throwing offensive linemen around like rag dolls Swinson had perhaps the single best game of any defender in the nation last week. In fact, he was so unbelievably good he did in fact win the SEC Defensive Player of the Week award.
If Swinson can continue offering consistent pressure and disruption to pair with Harold Perkins' versatility the LSU defense might start really shutting opposing offenses down in the coming weeks.
This week LSU faces off against UCLA who is already surrendering nearly double-digit pass rush pressures per game thanks much in part to quarterback Ethan Garbers' lack of mobility. This is a prime opportunity for Swinson (and other LSU defenders) to prove that last week's performance wasn't a fluke.
If offenses have to begin shifting more attention to Swinson that should open up more opportunities for even more LSU defenders to emerge as stars. The Tigers have two more "soft" opponents before their SEC schedule really starts ramping up, so head coach Brian Kelly and his coaching staff needs to find out who they can lean on to fix their defensive woes, and fast.
