LSU Tigers fans might not have to wait much longer to figure out who their quarterback of the future is going to be after Garrett Nussmeier departs. Brian Kelly and his recruiting staff have been pushing hard this offseason to build an absolute monster of a recruiting class for 2026 knowing they'll have plenty to replace beyond this fall and it's been paying off.
LSU already has nine players committed for the 2026 recruiting class, eight of which are Top 300 players in the nation. Four of those top talents are wide receivers. Thanks to all that leg work LSU has entered the finalist stage for an elite quarterback recruit in Bowe Bentley from Celina, Texas.
Bowe Bentley, Four Star QB Recruit
Bowe Bentley has skyrocketed up the recruiting ranks boards after putting up one of the most absurdly impressive seasons in the nation last fall. Bentley led his high school squad to a 16-0 season and a Texas state championship. He personally accounted for over 60 touchdowns and more than 4,200 total yards, dominating both through the air and on the ground.
Despite LSU not entering the running until February, when they finally offered him, the Tigers now find themselves in Bentley's top three, competing against Georgia and Oklahoma to land him.
As soon as LSU offered Bentley early this spring they made it a top priority to get him on campus for a visit alongside some of their best potential recruits in March. The visit reportedly went well at the time, but there was definitely uncertainty as to whether it was too little too late from Brian Kelly and LSU. Apparently not.
Can LSU actually pull this QB recruitment off, potentially finding their next Garrett Nussmeier? The short answer is "absolutely yes, they can". Why?
Georgia has been pushing hard to land five star quarterback Jared Curtis throughout his entire high school journey, and he's set to commit the first week of May. If Curtis lands with Georgia then Bentley's probably out of the equation entirely there. And even if Curtis chooses Oregon (the only other school still in it to land him), Bentley may just feel like the "backup plan" and go elsewhere anyway.
Oklahoma already has a top four star quarterback recruit committed in the 2026 recruiting class in Jaden O'Neal. Not that good quarterbacks should shy away from competition, but there isn't much of a reason to go with the Sooners when they've already had "their guy" committed since last summer.
Conversely, the LSU Tigers do not have a quarterback signed in the 2026 class already. On top of that, the Tigers already have four elite wide receiver talents committed for 2026 too, including top talents like Tristen Keys and Jabari Mack. That's much more impressive than anything Georgia or Oklahoma has to build around Bentley. And if new transfer wide receivers Barion Brown or Nic Anderson return for their senior year, and Trey'Dez Green breaks out at tight end like the program believes, LSU could be stacked at the skill position groups for Bentley from day one.
LSU might not be considered the industry "favorite" to land Bentley given his accelerated timeline with the program this spring, but he should be. Let's just hope Brian Kelly and his staff can seal the deal when they host him for an official visit this summer (already scheduled for June).
Two LSU Tigers offensive stars blew away the NFL scouts at their Pro Day, pumping up their 2025 NFL Draft stock
The LSU Tigers Pro Day never disappoints. There are always top tier athletes at most every single position. However, this year it was two offensive playmakers that seems to stand out more than most. There were plenty of talented trench players on both sides of the ball too, but tight end Mason Taylor and running […]
