LSU Tigers hosting another special offensive recruit for game against SEC rival following series of visits and surging interest

Brian Kelly and his staff realized just how important the tight end position was for their offense last season with Mason Taylor’s explosion in production and dominance within every role he filled. Trey’Dez Green should step in for 2025 and 2026 as their next iteration of top tier tight end play in Baton Rouge. Now, they’re already trying to lock down the tight end position well into the future.
Four star tight end Anthony Cartwright headed back to LSU for game this fall
LSU already looks like they’re leading to land five star tight-end-wide-receiver hybrid George Lamons for their 2027 class, but he’s obviously not the only top target at the position. Anthony Cartwright, a highly rated four star tight end from Michigan, has been a player that Kelly’s staff has pursued aggressively (alongside 30+ other schools) since this summer.
Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State have done the most work with actual in-person visits so far, but don’t count LSU out now. Despite not officially offering Cartwright until this June, they were looking into him way back in March of 2024 when they hosted him for an unofficial visit. With a strong June visit already in the books, another game visit coming now in September, it’s clear Cartwright wants to take a good hard look at LSU.
This may be a situation where LSU would actually prefer to land the five star George Lamons (where they may already have a lead), but Cartwright is one heck of an backup plan if Kelly and his staff can gain some steam here.
Cartwright is a three-sport athlete who also plays baseball and basketball. His ball skills are phenomenal. His physicality after the catch is destructive. Landing a player like Cartwright would be a huge get for Brian Kelly and his staff, even if they do land another top tight end in the class who projects to have a slightly higher athletic ceiling. The team just needs to take care of business when he comes to town to see them face off against Florida on September 13. That could go a long way towards sealing the deal here.
