The LSU Tigers and new head coach Lane Kiffin have been having their way in the transfer portal over the last week. Kiffin may have started a bit slow in building his championship roster initially as some of his new staff was still transitioning over from Ole Miss, but now the Tigers have begun to dominate the offseason action.

LSU is winning top transfer talents out of the portal. They’re retaining critical playmakers that should help Kiffin’s offense thrive. All of these wins, in every facet of talent acquisition and retention, are proving that Kiffin is more than just the Portal King. He’s something more than that now as LSU.

LSU Tigers now boast the number one overall ranked transfer portal class

The LSU Tigers have been racking up the transfer portal commits quickly. Top wide receiver talents like Eugene Wilson, Jayce Brown, Tre Brown III, and more now give LSU one of the best pass-catching rooms in the country. Defensive front talents like Jordan Ross, Jaylen Brown, and Stephiylan Green revamp a critical need on the other side of the ball.

23 commits (and counting) now make up LSU’s number one overall ranked transfer portal recruiting class. Every single day the Tigers continue to rack up some of the best players from all around the sport as Kiffin continues to prove he has the magic to build a championship roster.

Landing Sam Leavitt at QB completes an elite LSU Tigers offense

The LSU Tigers were trending towards landing Sam Leavitt days ago when Kiffin was in Knoxville this past weekend, but it was good to see things become more official on Monday. The last major offensive piece that Kiffin needed to win in the transfer portal was a quarterback, and Leavitt is easily one of the best in the country, let alone in the portal.

Leavvit has already carried one team to the College Football Playoff (Arizona State in 2024). He can certainly do it again with a better roster around him now. Leavitt should be a perfect fit in Kiffin’s offense as a fast-processing dual threat quarterback.

Kiffin convincing Caden Durham to return to LSU Tigers is huge

It’s one thing to win new player acquisitions in the transfer portal. Convincing key talents to stay when everything is changing around them is another animal entirely. Still, somehow Kiffin has begun doing that with fantastic players like running back Caden Durham, who announced he’s staying on Monday.

Kiffin had brought in other running back talents like Raycine Guillory and Rod Gainey, but still managed to secure Durham’s return. It’s clear he’s winning over the team, and still has the relational pull to close in the portal as the one true Portal King.

Kiffin is obviously more than just the Portal King now too. Yes, his departure from Ole Miss was ugly, and many see him as a villain, but what he’s had to maintain and overcome to get his team and staff on track is quite remarkable. Some of his staff members have been doing double duty, flying back and forth between Oxford, Mississippi and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The LSU program was in complete disarray under Brian Kelly. Players were unhappy. Even the state government was furious (the governor himself tried to intervene in this coach search). The LSU Tigers were a mess. Not anymore. Kiffin has already completely righted the ship, with the roster and staff looking like a championship organization already — much to the chagrin of the doubters.

The transfer portal window (to enter) ends Jan. 16. There’s still time for Kiffin and company to stack up even more talent too. LSU fans should certainly expect that to be the case. But even if the Tigers stay with what they have now, LSU fans should rest confidently knowing that their team is in good shape for 2026 and beyond.
