The LSU Tigers look set to lock in yet another top ten recruiting class in the nation for 2026, but unfortunately do not have a quarterback lined up after missing out on all their top targets this year.

However, based on latest intel from multiple recruiting experts it looks like Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers staff may be in great position to land their next Garrett Nussmeier in the 2027 recruiting class.

Colton Nussmeier, top QB recruit predicted to commit to LSU Tigers

You may have seen some recent buzz on Colton Nussmeier if you follow college football recruiting. Yes, he is the younger brother of current LSU Tigers starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, and he’s on his way to college football very soon.

The highly touted four star (and possible future five star) quarterback recruit from Flower Mound, Texas has been widely considered a consensus top 100 overall player in the country for a year now and continues to trend towards becoming one of the best quarterback recruits in the 2027 recruiting class.

Although it initially looked like momentum was leaning towards the younger Nussmeier committing to the Florida Gators earlier this summer, multiple experts from On3 Sports (Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman) are now predicting that Nussmeier will be committing to the LSU Tigers.

Colton Nussmeier could make huge and immediate impact for LSU Tigers

There is certainly a chance that the experts are wrong. Nussmeier’s father Doug (current New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator) was once the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Florida Gators, so Billy Napier and his staff might very well be in this battle to the very end. A handful of other blue blood schools certainly won’t be giving up on him any time soon either.

However, if Colton does eventually commit to the LSU Tigers (perhaps doing so soon) he could and should make an immediate impact for the team as an early starter.

Why?

The younger Nussmeier is already off to a faster start as a top quarterback prospect than his older brother Garrett was back just a handful of years ago. Colton earned some varsity experience as a freshman, then broke out in a huge way with a highly efficient sophomore campaign tossing over five touchdowns to every interception, adding some rushing value as well.

If he holds pace, Colton should easily be a top 100 overall recruit in the nation, racking up an impressive 3+ year run of starting experience prior to landing in Baton Rouge. His arm strength is higher caliber than his brother. He’s more mobile and threatening as a dual-threat than his brother. Yes, it will hurt to see Garrett Nussmeier go when he leaves, but the younger brother may actually project to be even better. Hopefully the experts are right and LSU lands yet another Nussmeier to build a strong foundation and future for the Tigers.
